Surging Tatnall Girls Put Five In The Top Seven On The Way To 22 Points; Padua Girls Win 11th Straight D1 Crown; Ethan Walther Leads Salesianum Boys

The Tatnall School girls cross country team continued its special season Saturday at the DIAA State Championships.

The Hornets, No. 11 in the DyeStat national team rankings, dominated the Division 2 race held at Brandywine Creek State Park in Wilmington. Using a strong pack effort to place all five scorers in the top seven, and all seven finished in the top 20 to tally 22 points.

Sophomore Abby Downin second-place finish in 18:49.9 to lead the effort. Runner-up in the team standings was Archer Academy with 99 points. 

Overall, Indian River’s Brynn Crandell ran the fastest time of the day for any female, clocking 18:20.9.

The Tatnall boys made it a program sweep, defending the Division II title with 40 points. The Hornets placed four runners in the top eight as Gavin Leffler led the way finishing third overall in 16:46.8. Camerin Williams of A.I. DuPont High won the individual title in 16:42.4.

One of the most dominating teams in the state, the Padua Academy girls, claimed the program’s 11th straight state title winning the Division 1 crown with 24 points. Sophomore Anna Bockius led the way for the Pandas winning the race in 19:13.8, 20 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Padua had all seven runners in the top 25, which included four of the top five spots. 

In the boys DI race, junior Ethan Walther led Salesianum to another title as he won in 16:35.20. Salesianum had five runners finish in the top 12.
