Padua Girls Run Win State Meet Win Streak To 10

The Padua girls cross country dynasty reached double digits on Saturday, November 12 at the DIAA State Championships. The Pandas rolled to the program’s 10th straight state title at Killens Pond State Park, scoring 21 points. Charter School of Wilmington was second with 68 points. 

Padua junior Sophia Holgado, who finished runner-up a year ago, won the Division I individual title, covering the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19 minutes, 10.8 seconds. Teammate Mary Flanagan was second (19:12) and freshman Anna Bockius was fourth (19:37.9). The Pandas placed six runners in the top 10. 

In the boys Division 1 race. Salesianum edged out Middletown 37-41 to defend their team championship. Middletown’s Jonathan Drew claimed the victory in 16:06.2. Salesianum’s Matt Miller was runner-up in 16:10.6 as the team placed five in the top 13. 

Indian River junior Brynn Crandell won her second straight Division II title in the fastest time of the day, 18:49.5, nearly a minute faster than her time a year ago. The Division II team title was won by St. Andrew’s with 59 points.

The boys Division II crown was won by Tatnall again a the team had five in the top 16 to score 51 points. Sophomore Ethan Walther of Delaware Military Academy crossed the line first to win the individual title in 16:18.3.
