It was a record-breaking day on Saturday at the Delaware State Cross Country Championships.
Charter senior Kevin Murray continued his dominant season as he led his team to a Division 1 title in a first-place time on 15 minutes, 20.60 seconds on the 5,000-meter course at Killens Pond State Park.
Murray’s time was nearly 50 seconds faster than runner-up Andrew Hally of Salesianum (16:09.75) and also broke the course record of 15:31.69 set in 2013 by Stephen Garrett.
Charter scored an unreal 32 points to win as a team with four in the top 10 and five in the top 11.
In the girls Division 1 race, it was Padua sophomore Lydia Olivere who dug deep to collect the win.
Olivere used a late surge to pass Newark senior Rachel Beston to cross the line in 17:57.66. Beston was right behind in 18:00.27. Padua won the team title with 44 points to defeat Charter (69). Padua placed five girls in the top 20.
In the Division 2 boys race it was all Tatnall. Senior Joey Garrett finished first in 16:05.07 and teammate Brad Keen was second (16:26.53).
Tatnall placed five runners in the top nine to score 21 points.
Tatnall’s Keelin Hays made it a clean sweep as she won the Division 2 girls title by more than a minute, clocking, 17:57.94. Tatnall finished the meet with 34 points to win the team championship.
